Although I have only been playing competitive golf for three years, over that time I have lowered my handicap from an 18 to a 3. Prior to HS, I have played baseball, basketball and soccer, all on travel teams, with golf as a leisure sport played only a few times a year. I made the decision to take golf seriously my freshman year, dropping baseball and soccer to concentrate on golf. I continue to play basketball to keep myself active during the winter months.
What separates me from other recruits is my work ethic. In three years, I lowered my handicap 15 strokes without any formal coaching. I did take a few lessons my freshman year just to get myself started but since then have been self taught and just kept practicing. This work ethic also carries over into my academics and life in general. I apply myself to my studies as I have taken several Honors courses and even an AP class. When I have my mind set on something, I will not stop until I accomplish my goal. I have a work ethic second to none and that is what makes me different from any other recruit both on and off the course.
My goal is to attend a university that will allow me to pursue an education in business while continuing to play competitive golf. I feel that if I can get my handicap down 15 strokes in 2 1/2 years being mainly self taught, I can continue to improve and succeed at even higher levels of competition.
