Joseph Gargin '23 Recruiting Profile

Hi coaches, 

My name is Joe Gargin and I’m a 16 year old junior at West Deptford High School in New Jersey. 

I have been playing golf for a little over a year and a half now, and I fall in love with the game the more that I play it. As you can imagine, it has been tough trying to match the level of competition of my competitors because of my inexperience. However,  I have made tremendous improvement in my short time playing. I have gone from not being able to hit the ball at all to being able to craft my shots and control where the ball is going, and also lower my scores substantially. From the 120’s to the high 70's and low 80’s and occasionally mid 70’s is the improvement I have had in just this short time. I have been working with a coach over the last year to help with my improvement and he has definitely helped me. He always says that he sees great potential in me and that I am capable of being really good as long as I keep putting in the time.  In addition to my short amount of time playing, I am very young for my class so I have always been a little physically behind which doesn’t play to my favor. 

I am not saying any of this as an excuse because they are just things that make me work harder to try to be able to continue my journey in golf at the highest level.  I want to out-compete everyone because I feel that with enough time, I will be able to out-compete everyone. I put in as much time to the sport as I can a week, typically 5 days but it is hard to get to the course without a driver’s license. I would play everyday if I could and some weeks I am lucky enough to get out there everyday.

I see a bright future to come in my golf career and college golf is definitely a part of that future.
