October 2017
My name is Alexandre Lefebvre and I am 16 years old. I am currently a grade 11 student at Ashbury College in Ottawa, Canada, a leading Independent World IB School. It has a strong and dynamic academic program that challenges me to work hard and balance school, sports and volunteering. My education thus far has engaged me to become intellectually vibrant, compassionate and a responsible citizen. All things, I believe, I am achieving.
Throughout my time in high school, I have played numerous sports such as football, basketball, rugby and golf. I also played competitive Minor Hockey with the Ottawa Sting for the past 8 years, and was team Captain for most of those years. Last year, I earned the All Round Junior Athlete of the Year award at school, which combines athletic and academic achievement with overall contribution to school life. I volunteer regularly with various events at school and with other organizations. I continue most of these activities to this day.
Playing a variety of sports has helped me gain leadership skills, to good teammate, and also work under pressure. Competing in local (OVGA), provincial (CJGA, Golf Québec) and International golf tournaments, however, has allowed me to make friends from all over, improve my confidence and instilled in me a love of good competition. I learned to keep my composure, and work past the stress of an important shot. Golf has made my life so much better and I am so happy that I am in love with this sport.
Academically, I am currently working towards a bilingual diploma. My family is fluent in both English and French, the latter being my maternal tongue. My family comes from Quebec and I am of Native Canadian decents. I am focused on refining my time management skills and achieving a high final grade. I am becoming increasingly interested in pursuing my post graduate studies in Political Science or Business. I believe that the skills and personal enrichment I have gained through sports and especially Golf will serve me well in both these fields.
My goal for golf is to continue improving and gain confidence. Here, in Canada, I play golf whenever possible in September, April, May and June and when school is dismissed for summer in late June, I play golf every day during July and August. I practice indoors during the winter with my swing coach, and hopefully I can fly down south to play some golf outside.
In all, my life consists of sports and education, and it is my dream to attend a school that allows me to continue cultivating and refining my golf game. My goal is to play in the NCAA so I can practice and compete year round.
