Personal Statement

Character, Athletics and Academics,

I have been an honors student since grade 7 while achieving a cumulative average of 90% and have received multiple character awards. I have played golf since age 5, and it has always been my true passion. I devoted myself the last two years to specializing in golf. I love the skill and mental strength required to succeed in golf. I have played on travelling sports teams all my life, from hockey and baseball to volleyball and squash. My roles on these teams, from pitching to playing the critical position of setter in volleyball, have helped my teams win championships and have led me to a volleyball leadership award. The power, touch, resilience, and mental fortitude gained from these athletic experiences have helped me improve my golfing abilities.

Golf accomplishments,

My greatest assets are my coachability, willingness to learn, and academic and athletic work ethic. Recently, I finished 3rd at the Ontario high school golf championship while shooting 75,70. My ability to score and overall skills have improved significantly over the last six months due to extensive work on my short game, wedges and irons. I am excited because there is great potential to improve my scoring average further, as I am working hard to harness my power driver-wise. Currently, my swing speed is 125mph, giving me around a 300 carry on average.

Here is a link to a newspaper article about my recent golf success: https://www.thepeterboroughexaminer.com/sports/golf/2022/10/26/busy-and-successful-season-for-peterborough-teen-golfer.html

I have improved from being just another golfer to earning my way into the National tournaments for both the Canadian Men’s and Canadian Juniors. Most recently, I have lowered my tournament scoring average from 79.2 last season to 72.3 based on the average from 7 of my fall tournament rounds. I have also shot new personal bests this year with a 67 then a 66 a week later all while making under par rounds a regular occurrence. I am confident I will keep improving and bring my scoring average sub 70 during my university golf career.

Events

  • Camp/Event
  • Canadian Junior Boys Championship
  • 8/07/22 to 8/10/22
  • I shot 70,76,76,75 to finish 63rd out of all of the juniors in Canada. I found a lot of positives in my game from the Canadian Junior Championship since I played the par 4’s and par 3’s as well as the leaders did. I am beginning to realize that I need to take my driver more often on the par 5’s because it is one of my biggest assets since I am 6’5 and can hit the ball 320 yards.
  • Camp/Event
  • Canadian Men's Amateur Championship
  • 8/01/22 to 8/04/22
  • This is the biggest amateur event in Canada with a field of talented college players and aspiring professionals. I shot 79,75 and missed the cut by a little bit, however I had some positive streaks during each round and found a couple areas where I can improve to successfully compete at this level.
  • Camp/Event
  • 100th Ontario Men's Amateur Championship
  • 7/12/22 to 7/15/22
  • I advanced to the Men's National Championships since I shot 76,71,75,77. I came 37th in a field stacked with highly talented university players and exceptional amateurs. I ended the week with the same amount of birdies as the winner which proved to me that I can be right up there at the top of the leaderboard if I keep solidifying every aspect of my game.
  • Camp/Event
  • 100th Ontario Junior (U19) Boys Championship
  • 7/05/22 to 7/08/22
  • I advanced to the National Championships which take place August 7th-10th in Kamloops B.C. due to my rounds of 79,73,74,76. I grinded very well the first day to keep myself in position to succeed because it was raining steadily for the entire round. I came away with lots of positives from this tournament which I look forward to bringing to the National Championships.
  • Camp/Event
  • Golf Canada NextGen Quebec Championship
  • 6/28/22 to 6/30/22
  • I shot rounds of 72,80,80 which put me in the top 25 out of 90 people in the field. I was tied for second after the first round but my short game was a little off for the next two rounds which led to some higher scores. I have improved my short game since then to tighten up my scoring.
  • Camp/Event
  • Ontario Men's Match Play Championship
  • 6/07/22 to 6/10/22
  • I was thrilled to get into the field since it was a Men's event, so I was one of the youngest people who qualified for it. Match play suits my game very well and I thoroughly enjoyed the tournament. I started off slowly but I bounced back well to shoot +2 from hole 4 to hole 18. I was 2 down going into hole 14 but I won the next three holes to be 1 up with 2 holes to go. My opponent finished very well winning the last two holes and claiming the victory. Overall I had a lot of very useful learning experiences and I am looking forward to my next match play event.
  • Camp/Event
  • Golf Canada NextGen Ontario Championship
  • 5/26/22 to 5/28/22
  • I shot 82,80,78 for a tie for 29th. The course played extremely difficult due to the nature of the course and the rain combined with the wind. Overall I showed good resilience throughout the entire tournament which allowed me to finish in a tie for 29th.
  • Camp/Event
  • Golf Ontario Junior Spring Classic Boys Championship
  • 5/22/22 to 5/24/22
  • I shot 75,73 for a tie for 20th. The tournament got shortened to 2 days since there was a major storm a couple days before the event.
