Dear Coach,
I’m excited to share my goals and aspirations with you because golf and being part of a team are two of my greatest passions. I began playing competitive golf at age 5 on the US Kids Niagara Tour, and by the time I was 7, I had qualified for and competed in the US Kids World Championships in Pinehurst, NC. I was fortunate enough to qualify again at age 8.
I’m currently coached by Dustin Risdon, who has had an extensive career in professional golf. In the 2009 Nationwide Tour (now known as the Korn Ferry Tour), Dustin finished 31st on the money list. He has won three times on the Canadian Tour and claimed two professional National Championships with the PGA of Canada. My dad has caddied extensively for Dustin over the years, and I’m grateful for the guidance and mentorship they’ve provided. This offseason, I’m putting in significant work in my home golf simulator, focusing on refining my skills and improving my numbers every day.
At age 13, I took a break from competitive golf to try rep baseball and experience being part of a team. It turned out to be a rewarding decision. I quickly became one of the top players on my team, leading in hitting and playing first base. While baseball occupied much of my time, I continued playing golf once or twice a week to keep my game sharp.
This year, I won both the Tamoshanter Junior Club Championship and the Toronto City Junior Club Championship, and for the past two years, I have won the Toronto East Region High School Golf title. These victories have fueled my determination to take my golf to the next level in college. I’m now fully focused on golf and have reached the ability to break par at my home course. I know the competition will be tougher at Golf Ontario and Golf Canada events, especially with many of my peers already committing to D1 schools. That’s my goal as well, and I’m confident I can compete at that level.
What sets me apart as a recruit is not just my golf results but the way I balance athletics, academics, and personal growth. My experience in both individual and team sports has taught me valuable lessons in discipline, leadership, and collaboration. I’m driven, hardworking, and adaptable—qualities that I believe will make me a strong asset to your team.
I’m incredibly excited about the possibility of contributing my skills and passion for golf to your program while continuing to grow both as an athlete and a student.
Thank you for considering me!
Sincerely,
Tru Davidson
