My name is Michael Gray and I am part of the class of 2019 at Crescent Valley High School in Corvallis, Oregon (ranked 13th in Oregon for academics). I work very hard in school and receive a 4.0 GPA taking honors classes resulting in my weighted GPA being a 4.44. As for golf, my story is somewhat unique. As a freshman, I was already a two sport athlete and I wanted to play a spring sport so I picked up a golf club for the first time two weeks before the start of my freshman golf season. Over the course of that season I grew a deep love for the game and I have dedicated myself to golf exclusively, practicing every day regardless of weather conditions. Additionally, I have made efforts to participate in as many junior tournaments as possible to improve my game under pressure. In the last year my handicap has dropped from over 30 to a 1.8 and I have dropped by tournament scoring average to a 75. Most of my practice takes Trysting Tree golf club, a local public course which is just under 7000 yards from the back tees, which I typically play. I also take lessons from an individualized golf professional at the local country club which has really brought my game to a new level.
As a student athlete, I hope to be continually dedicated to making myself the best golfer that I possibly can. I want to be a leader and as I mature as a college golfer, I hope to inspire younger less experienced teammates to work very hard at improving their game, while staying focused in the classroom. As a player, I wish to contribute wherever I am needed to best support my team. While setting goals for myself as a team player, I also feel that it is important to set ongoing individual goals. Since I started playing golf, I have always set goals and as I continue to improve I will continually change them to set the bar higher. The environment I grew up in has taught me the importance of respect in life. As a college golfer, I want to show all coaches and teammates the respect they deserve and in matches exercise good etiquette to promote a positive image for my school. Thank you in advance for taking the time to review my profile.
