Hi! My name is Derek Johnson. I am a Junior at Crestwood High School. I have been golfing for a little over four years now. I previously played soccer and baseball during those times. However, I gave them up going into middle school due to my size. Everyone appeared to be growing at rapid speeds, except for me. I was encouraged to give golf a try. By far, the best decision I have ever made! Golf wasn’t based on size, it was based purely on skills. In roughly four years since teaching myself how to play golf, I have grown into a golfer who can compete at a high level. Every year my scores have improved. My commitment to practicing and my love for the game has brought me to earning many achievements. I am dedicated to maintaining that same level of improvement throughout high school and wherever my future takes me.
As a golfer I realize the significance of competing for the best individual score. I also realize how important it is to work as a team. As a multi sport athlete, I have learned how important teamwork is in whatever sport you play. Education is also extremely important to me. I am committed to continuing to excel in school and to hopefully play golf at the collegiate level. I am looking forward to finding a great college that is the right fit for me while making a significant contribution to a collegiate golf team.
