Personal Statement

My name is Hunter Kutcher from Regina Saskatchewan. I fell in love with golf at the age of 12 and have not looked back since. I started playing tournament golf 1 year later and that lit a fire inside of me. I am a competitive player who will do anything it takes to help myself and my team be successful.  I work hard every day to improve and reach my goals by studying my golf swing and constantly analyzing ways to perfect it.

A belief in the benefit of strong relationships with my teammates and coaches makes me a good candidate for the team. I value learning from others and sharing information with team members to strengthen the team as a whole.

I am a coachable athlete who works hard at improving myself and my golf game by being a student of the game both on and off the course.  I am open and excited to take on challenges, which I look forward to with a new college team.

I have a great personality and like to have fun.  Being involved in competitive sports including Division 1 soccer and football has taught me the importance of dedication and hard work. I have also just recently won the Saskatchewan Soccer Association Multi-sport athlete of the year award. This award is determined by athletic excellence as well as off field character excellence. Achieving Honor Roll in grades 9, 10 and 11 demonstrate consistency in my academics.

I have shown a continuous trend in my golf game, improving greatly every year. This is shown by a 6 shot improvement in tournament scoring average from 2019 to 2020. I see myself continuing on this trend as a result of my hard work and dedication towards the game of golf on a daily basis.

  • Camp/Event
  • Saskatchewan High schools provincial championship
  • 9/25/21 to 9/26/21
  • 78,75. I am pretty disappointed in myself for how I did in this tournament. I hit the ball very well with only a couple lose shots. Putting was very poor and did not capitalize on the chances. Along with losing a ball in the leaves on the first day since it is fall.
  • Camp/Event
  • Regina High School City championship
  • 9/14/21 to 9/14/21
  • 71-1st place. I won this event by shooting a 1 under 71 in 30km/h winds. I played fairly steady all day and birdied 17 and 18 to win by 2 shots. By winning this I now qualify for provincials later in September.
  • Camp/Event
  • Mackenzie PGA Tour Elk Ridge Open
  • 9/09/21 to 9/11/21
  • Canadian PGA tour event. This was the first pro level tournament I have ever played in and it was an amazing learning experience. Playing alongside the pros and seeing what it is like to be in a professional tournament was amazing. I shot rounds of 73,80 with 3 bad holes that cost me on day 2. I finished right in the middle of the pack which I am quite proud of since I was playing against the big boys. After my 73 on a very hard tree lined course day 1, I was sitting in 37th place which was very cool.
  • Camp/Event
  • Team Canada Junior selection team Camp
  • 8/30/21 to 9/03/21

In the tournament I shot scores of 85,79,72 the first 2 rounds I had 3 bad holes each that caused the high scores. It was a great experience playing with the best juniors in Canada.

  • 70,73 - 1 under total. Played very consistent, just had 1 bad hole that costed me the tournament early in the second round. I made a tripple bogey, but was able to battle and post an acceptable score.
  • Camp/Event
  • Saskatchewan u19 Junior Men's Championship
  • 7/13/21 to 7/15/21
  • 70, 73, 68 - 1st place. This is my first junior tournament win! Could not have come at a better time being right after the men's am, a great comeback to show I can play. Each of the 3 days I played solid golf for a 3 day total of 2 under par. Starting day 3 three shots back of the lead, I went out and posted a round of 68 consisting of 4 birdies and 1 bogey. I won this tournament in a playoff by making a birdie on the first hole of the sudden death playoff. By winning this tournament I will now be attending Golf Canada Nationals at La Vallee du Richelieu Golf Club, Sainte-Julie Quebec on August 8-12, 2021. • Camp/Event
  • Saskatchewan Men's Am
  • 7/06/21 to 7/09/21
  • 82,80,69- This was my first time playing in a men's am event. I was battling the shanks leading up to the tournament and the first two days were tough. After a quick lesson with my coach who luckily lives in that city, I went out and trusted the changes in round 3 and shot a 3 under 69. This tournament was a big learning experience but also a tough to take because I wanted to play a lot better.

  • 6/26/21 to 6/27/21
  • 73,73: 3rd place. This event was the first tournament of my 2021 season, and I am satisfied with my result. Breezy conditions both days along with not quite having my best game really tested my mental strength. I was able to not let my bad holes get to me and finish with 3 straight birdies on day 1, and finished birdie eagle on day 2 both to shoot 73's. With 7 birdies and 1 eagle for the tourney there are positives to take away, but lots of things to improve on.

  • Camp/Event
  • Maple Leaf Junior Tour National Championship
  • 10/09/20 to 10/12/20
  • 3rd place (79, 78, 71); played par 3's at 6 under for the tournament; closed out with a 2 under par back nine to shoot low round in Juvenile age division for the tournament. In this tournament I showed great improvement in both sides of the game. Battling through cold, wet conditions all week my mental strength that I had worked very hard on payed off. Not getting too ahead of myself aswell as not letting the bad shots get to me I was able to grind out a top 3 finish. This course was tricky with tree lined fairways, tucked pins, and the course tipped out on day 3 at 6955 yards. The last day I showed that I have what it takes to be a contender in a national level event as I had never shot under par in a tournament before, and was able to do so with confidence when I needed to most. This tournament was a phenomenal experience and helped me learn a lot about myself as a player that I can keep with me for the rest of my golf career.
  • Camp/Event
  • Maple Leaf Junior Tour Saskatchewan
  • 7/20/20 to 7/21/20
  • placed 2nd (74, 74); shot 2 under on back 9 on day 2 to achieve 2nd place. After starting off with a triple bogey on the first hole of the second day, I persevered through and slowly climbed back up to grab a 2nd place finish.
  • Camp/Event
  • Golf Saskatchewan Junior Provincials
  • 7/14/20 to 7/16/20
  • 75,81,79. Going into this tournament my game was in a slump. This was represented my the scores I shot. Though my day 1 score was alright it was due to a personal record 5 under par back nine to post a 75. My game was super hot and cold and for the 2nd nine of the first day it was extremely hot. Starting off with a bogey I thought I was in for another bad nine, little did I know. I followed that up with 6 birdies in my last 8 holes to post a 75 and get into the final group for day 2.
  • Camp/Event
  • Maple Leaf Junior Tour Saskatchewan
  • 6/27/20 to 6/28/20
  • 3rd place (78, 73); finished day 2 with a 1 under finish on back 9 . This was my first MJT event placing top 3, This event brought confidence to my game leading to more podium finishes over the rest of the season. This was also the first event of the 2020 season, which set the tone for my game for the year.
  • Camp/Event
  • MJT Saskatchewan tour
  • 8/24/19 to 8/25/19
  • 81,75. Lowest tournament round of the year. Inspired me to keep working even harder over the off season to keep improving and trending upwards.
  • Camp/Event
  • MJT Saskatchewan tour
  • 7/22/19 to 7/23/19
  • 78,77. This was my first ever event shooting two rounds in the 70s. I showed great improvements in my mental game and gained lots of confidence from this tournament.
