My name is Ryan Hollander. I live in Brownsville, Texas and have a strong aspiration to play college golf. I currently play golf at Homer Hanna High School (graduation year 2012) under Coach Adrian Garcia where I am team captain. My home course is Fort Brown Memorial Golf Course where Robert Lucio is the head golf pro. He is also the former coach at the University of Texas at Brownsville. My swing coach is Carlos Espinosa of Palm View Golf Course in McAllen, Texas.
My freshman year scoring average was a 78.8 with a second place finish at the district meet (77-74). Sophomore year, my scoring average was 77.6. My junior year average was 76.2. I won Newcomer of the Year my freshman year and have been 1st team All-District my entire high school career.
Living in Brownsville, it can be difficult to get to tournaments further north in Texas and other places across the country, but with my drive to become a great player, and my parent's support, I am constantly playing Texas Junior Golf Tour, Texas Legends, and AJGA events. I placed tied for 7th at a Texas Legends event last summer with a 76-72 at Brackenridge Park in San Antonio. I also qualified for an AJGA event at Sweetwater Country Club in Sugarland, Texas. I have also won numerous STPGA events in my area. Just to name a few, I shot 74-74 to win at Cimarron Country Club in Mission, Texas under extremely windy conditions. I also won the South Texas Junior Golf Classic with a 76-74 at Harlingen Country Club in Harlingen, Texas. In a TJGT event, I tied for 6th place out of 68 competitors at the University of Texas at Austin Golf Club with a 75-77.
I am a hard worker who will stop at nothing to be the best I can be. My main interests are winning and improving myself. Academically, I am currently in the top 8% of my high school class. Since freshman year, I have been part of an accelerated medical program at my high school. I am also in the National Honor Society. I work very hard every day at the golf course and at school.
