I have had aspirations of attending college and playing collegiate golf since having the opportunity to watch my older brother play golf for Weber State University in Ogden, Utah. Walking with him during high school and college matches inspired me to dream for a similar opportunity. Some of my favorite and most impactful times were when I caddied for him during the US Amateur Qualifier and State Amateur.
I have dedicated my high school time to both my studies and refining my game. I have cut 14 strokes off of my 18-hole game the past three years through countless hours of practice and study of the game. When I have felt like I was at an impasse I searched for assistance in other ways. I read Zen Golf and applied the principles taught. Setting goals at the beginning of the season has provided me the motivation I need to continue to improve my game. Golf comes down to my ability to stay in the moment. One swing at a time. I am continuing to grow as an athlete, and improve my ability to stay present.
Outside of golf, I have aspirations of attending a top academic university so I can study for a degree in the medical field. I plan to attend graduate school. My high school curriculum is rigorous and includes honors, AP, and university concurrent enrollment classes. I will graduate high school with my Associate’s Degree. My education has always been a priority, and I have been able to find a balance between school, golf, family and friends. I am able to communicate effectively with people in various settings. I am loyal and maintain friendships. I am a fierce competitor, an honest sportsman and driven to accomplish what I set out to do.
In order to improve my golf game year round, I practice every day. However, in Utah, there is snow on the ground in the winter, which makes practicing more difficult. I do my best by practicing indoors and traveling to warmer climates to play in tournaments. I have also been practicing with my swing coach and playing in tournaments year round in order to elevate my game.
I take responsibility for my life. I take responsibility for my success and failure. I have shown motivation and dedication to learning through academics and the steady improvement of my game. I am enjoying my high school experience. I am very engaged and active in extracurricular activities, sports, school dances, etc. I believe that these characteristics will be an asset to me in college and I will be an exemplary representative of the school I attend. I look forward to the next phase of my life, expecting it will be challenging, exciting and rewarding.
