Hello coach!
My name is Shawn and I want to share why I love golf. I am hoping this shows you how I could be a great fit for your team.
I have been playing golf since I was young. In this time I have learned that there are not many better feelings than draining a clutch putt, chipping in or purring a 4 iron. Crushing a drive doesn’t feel that bad either, but the truth is I know that I already owe the game of golf a lot. It has and continues to teach me humility, strength in the face of adversity and an approach to life that can only be understood if you play the game. This may sound odd, but I didn’t really think about college golf seriously until this past year. That is when I fell in love with team play.
This past year, our high school team had 3 players who could score, but we didn’t have a 4th to get a low enough team score to qualify for state. Being one of the top 3 I loved helping our middle players find ways to be better, encouraging them and grinding with them. The whole time knowing I had to set the example for our team to have a chance. Happy to say, we made it as a team to state! In the process, I got a lot better with my mental approach and really want to see what I can do with a team in college. I’m a team guy, but don’t think for one second that I’m not trying to beat my teammates!
I love the competition of golf. Whether competing against someone else or the relentless competition with yourself, I love to compete. I don’t care if we are doing an up and down challenge or in a championship match play, I’m grinding to find a way. I've learned that each level of improvement is 10 times more work, but I look forward to that. Know that if I have the privilege to play on your team, I’m there to try and win matches.
I want to be coached. I’ve scored in the 60’s multiple times (low 66, tournament low 67), but I know I can get better, that I can be a consistent 60’s shooter and not only compete, but win tournaments. I learned a lot last year on the mental side with books like “Every Shot Must Have a Purpose”. I’m adding to the mental improvements with strength and endurance work at the gym and looking for tweaks to help me be more consistent. Know that if I am on your roster, I’m there to grow, learn and get better.
Thank you for taking the time to read my statement. Please ask me any questions and I look forward to competing in college!
Sincerely
Shawn Glover
