COMMITTED TO VIRGINIA WESLEYAN
Hello Coaches,
My name is James Brooks. Currently, I play golf for my varsity high school team at the number one spot. I have played competitive golf for over 5 years, but I have been playing the sport my entire life. My goal for my senior season in high school is to win the Individual State Championship, and I believe I can do it with much work and practice. As a student athlete, I am incredibly determined. I do not give up, and I maintain a positive attitude while persevering, whether it is in academics or golf.
I excel in the classroom due to my student athlete mindset is the, and my 4.0+ GPA demonstrates this. Currently I am taking 5 AP classes, along with mentoring at an elementary school with a PE teacher. All my core classes are AP, and I am taking AP Psychology as an elective. I strongly believe in being a student athlete, where I put my academics before my sports. That means if I have homework to do, I will finish that before I practice. I have balanced this academic schedule with varsity golf and baseball and managing the indoor track team.
I am very competitive, but I am also a teammate. I always put my team before myself, whether that is helping them out with their swings or just encouraging them and complimenting them. I am lucky to have great coaches, parents, and mentors who have helped me become not only skillful, but who have also taught me how to become a leader. This past season I had the honor of being elected team captain as a junior on a team with mostly seniors. I was able to lead the team to a 4th place Region finish, with one of our players making it to states individually. Unfortunately, this year I missed the cut line by 2 strokes to represent my team at the VHSL state tournament, but I have set my goal for next year and I will do everything in my power to achieve it.
After high school, I would love to play for a competitive collegiate team and place very high in the individual tournaments that come along with that. While in college, I want to study education and become a physical education teacher. I believe I would be a great fit on a college team because of my extremely outgoing personality and coachable attitude. I love talking to people, making new friends, and becoming a better player. I would be a great asset to a college team because of these traits. Whenever I am on a team, especially if it is for a competitive event, my priority is to take time to get to know my teammates and make it a positive environment for them.
I cannot wait to talk to you more about your program. I am very confident that my love of the game and dedication to academics would be a positive addition to your team and school.
