My name is William Barniak, and I am in the 2024 graduating class of Williamstown High School. After high school, I plan to attend a college or university that will allow me to take my golf talents to the next level. I fell in love with the game of golf at an early age, and at that moment, I knew it was the perfect sport for me. I started playing golf competitively at the age of 10 and won my first tournament at age 12, in the 2018 Junior Callaway Tour, at Green Hills Country Club. Overall, I have played in 40 Callaway events from 2016-2020 with 25 top 10 finishes, 16 of those being top 5.
In 2021, after two Callaway events, I was involved in an accident that broke my left leg and unfortunately, couldn’t play the remaining season. Even though this was a setback, I was able to persevere through and started training as soon as I was released to play. After returning in 2022 I was able to continue playing through Callaway and was the A player on my high school team and was the lowest individual qualifier All-Conference for Regionals that secured my spot at the WV High School Golf Championship where I placed 7th, receiving All-State Honors at Oglebay Golf Course in Wheeling, WV.
Playing golf for many years has instilled may valuable positive attributes and life lessons. Golf has taught me patience, honesty, integrity, sportsmanship and accountability, all of which guide me in everyday life. Being the A player on my high school team has also provided the opportunity to become a leader. I am able to lead by example and guide my team with professionalism and show the importance of personal responsibility. I believe all of these attributes sets me apart from other golfers and I have been commended by other coaches and spectators on my temperament when I play in matches. I always keep a cool head and stay focused to get the job done. My work ethic on and off the course has also been praised. My high school coach, swing coach, teachers, and employers have all recognized me for my work ethic and determination. I am a level-headed person who is coachable, has a great attitude and willingness to learn and would be a great addition to any golf team that pushes the team and me to grow as a player to compete at that higher level.
