A big dream I have always had is to play hockey at the NCAA Division 1 level. I love the idea of being able to study and earn a degree while also being able to play the sport I love. Ever since I started to be given letter grades my parents have always made academics a very high priority in my life, which is why I am very proud of my 3.61 GPA. A couple of years ago I played for the Kootenay Ice in the BCMML. We were towards the bottom of the league, but because of that, there were many learning experiences. I have always been a very hard worker, however, through all the struggles I found that if I want to follow my dream of playing high-level hockey I need to work harder than all of my competitors not just in the amount and intensity of training but also in the little things I do every day. Additionally, to work ethic, I learned about the impact of being a great teammate and how every individual's character with respect for each other can make or break a team.
As a player, I usually consider myself a 2 way/Power forward. I like to block shots, help out defensively, and follow through with hits any chance I get because of how much more engaged I become in the game. The strengths I possess and utilize most on the ice would be my ability to play in tight (battles close to the walls or in front of the net), my overall physical style of play, and my will to never give up on a play or battle (whether it be 2nd, 3rd, 4th, or 5th attempt). Some of my strengths off the ice are my willingness to put in work to succeed in school and the classes I take, my enjoyment in training in the gym or on the track knowing I will become a better player on the ice, and my competitive nature that makes me want to win over the other people I compete against.
I understand that if I want to play hockey at the Division 1 level it takes big commitment to your sport and education. One needs to be both a great athlete and student. I am going to put every ounce of my effort into chipping away at this dream of being a division 1 athlete. If I am a player you are interested in, I would love to learn about your program.
