Being voted as an assistant captain by my Tier II state travel team has been the highlight of my year. Knowing my teammates count on me and see me as a leader is an important accomplishment, as this wasn’t always the case. I feel that I grew up the most as a student athlete over the last two years. I received very little playing time on the third line of my team. I asked the coach for some feedback and went to work. I worked on my identified weaknesses and improved my skills by taking every opportunity to better myself. My grit has paid off as my team now sees me as a leader, I’m on one of the top lines, been asked to play multiple positions, and I even had the confidence to try out for several different teams and excel.
Through my efforts to develop as a better player, I was fortunate to be part of two different AA teams – Team Northwest and Compete Hockey. I have learned that I have not only the physical talent to be an impact player, but also the mental stamina to do whatever it takes to reach my goals. I’ve learned the value of teamwork, commitment, sacrifice and leadership, as well as the importance of my family’s support. I’m looking for a program that will be a good fit for me athletically, as well as academically. As a multi-sport athlete, team leader, and scholar, I believe I have the talent to be an impact player within your program. I know I have what it takes!
