My name is Cody Schiavon and as you probably have already noticed, I am a hockey player. I started skating when I was three years old, and started playing organized hockey when I was five. Although it is cliche, I fell in love with the game right away.
While growing up and playing, I was always considered a leader. I have been named the captain of my team three times and assistant captain three times. I try to set a good example for my teammates through hard work, dedication, and encouragement. West Kelowna Minor Hockey has an award every year for the most dedicated player, and I have received the honor four times.
When I hit midget hockey, I made the move to a higher program and joined the Okanagan Rockets in the BC Major Midget League. This past year, I was named the Unsung Hero during the annual awards ceremony after being an assistant captain all year. By playing in tournaments like Mac's and KIMMT, I have had the privilege to see some of the top talent in the world for my age. Myself, I am making the jump to the BCHL this season and starting my Junior career with the Junior A team, Surrey Eagles.
In a bit of a juggling act, I still attend high school full time. Ever since letter grades were first handed out in Grade 4, I have received straight A's. A lot of subjects haven't been easy for me but my parents have pushed me to be the best I can be. My favourite classes to attend are chemistry and biology. I was awarded with the top Chemistry 11 mark this past semester, and although I'm just entering Grade 12, I skipped ahead last year and took English 12 where I was also awarded with the top mark.
While it may not seem like it, I still have a life outside of school and hockey. I love to spend time with my Mom, Dad, Brother and Sister. They are the people that make it worth doing what I do. I also like to spend time with friends, extended family, and my dog. Living in Kelowna, I get to enjoy a lot of activities that I wouldn't be able to try somewhere else. Boating, hiking, mountain biking, hunting, fishing, you name it. I played lacrosse for 3 seasons until I was injured and decided not to keep playing. I'm a terrible golfer, and honestly I don't know if there is much hope for me in that department. I've figured out that lessons just make it worse.
After junior, I want to play college hockey. I realize that hockey isn't going to last forever, so I would like to keep playing hockey while I further my education in college. I am open to all options and want to find a school that is the best fit for me at the highest level possible. I want to push myself to my full potential in the classroom and on the ice.
