Personal Statement
I began playing hockey when I was eight and have learnt to skate up to UK level 9. I play defence and really enjoy this position.
I am committed to improving my physical fitness and mental focus using mindfulness techniques, yoga, and hockey focused workouts. To compensate for the limited ice time available in the UK, I took up competitive inline hockey. This helped to enhance various skills relevant to ice hockey such as stick handling, overall strength and conditioning, team work, speed, agility and hand eye coordination.
As an Alternate Captain for my U14 Ice team and a volunteer helper for our learn to play program, I have contributed to nurturing talent and supporting my club and teammates.
I have played up to the next age group since the age of 12 so have played full contact since then. Facing older, stronger opponents has not only toughened me physically but has made me a much smarter and quick thinking defenseman.
During my hockey journey I have always performed well in school. I have kept up with all my schoolwork and revision and have done well in all my exams. I feel my organisation skills have helped me keep up with my tough training schedule.
Playing hockey in the UK is challenging with limited ice availability but I know if I had the right opportunities I could excel in the sport.
I’m eager to continue my hockey career in the US and seek a chance to train and play the sport I love at a higher level. I have always focused on teamwork over individual accolades and am able to keep a calm head under pressure. I am valued by coaches and peers alike and this should make me a good addition to any team. I hope I can get an opportunity to show you what I can do.
