Personal Statement
Hello, my name is Luc Morrissey and I am an avid ice hockey player. I am half Irish, half German and attend the sports boarding school in Chemnitz (Sportgymnasium Chemnitz), Germany where I train hockey 8-10x a week and play 2 league games each weekend. I’m a 2007 player and play for Crimmitschau U17 team Division I/II North German league. I have been playing hockey since the age of 5.
What makes me a great candidate for your team is that I truly love this sport and am a 150% passionate player who gives everything on the ice. I have the resolute goal of becoming a professional player. I am a left defender, superb at anticipating attackers moves & blocking/ aggravating them, setting up attacks, am fast, agile and robust.
I am a strong collaborator and motivator both on and off the ice and am very much valued by both coaches and fellow team members. My coaches describe me a very sound and ‘teachable’ player – always listening, applying their coaching tips and continuously improving.
Since last year, I also play for the Irish National team and already played for Ireland in a tournament in Bratislava, Slovakia last year. This year we are planning a tour in Nova Scotia, Canada
In addition, as a very complimentary sport to Ice hockey, I have been playing unicycling hockey since I was 3 years old. I was selected to play for the German national team last year and we came 3rd in the European championships. This summer we will be at Bemidji Campus in Minnesota competing in the world Unicycling hockey championships.
Basically, since the age of 4, I have permanently had a hockey stick in my hand whether on ice or on a unicycle. The benefit to my hockey here being that it is has allowed me to train and develop my stick handling skills ALL year round for the past 12 years ;O)

On the academic side, I have always been a strong, diligent & hard-working student averaging end of year grades of 1.5 (Grade A-) in my second level education. I am very keen to study in the US as it allows me to
- 1. Study in English which is my second mother tongue.
- 2. Gaining a degree from an esteemed university program
- 3. Play and grow in hockey by getting the best possible coaching.
I am fully aware that to become a professional player, there is a ton of hard work and discipline required. I am more than ready for this challenge.
I would very much appreciate the opportunity to meet/ chat with Coaches at universities with the option to study sports
