Personal Statement
Hello Coach,
my name is Adam Zoweil.
I am 18 years old and I started playing Ice hockey when I was 8 years old. I live in Stuttgart, Germany and have Egyptian Roots. Currently I am playing Ice Hockey for the Bietigheim Steelers. I played in the 1st and 2ndU17 and am now playing in the 3rd U20 National League.
I am a very ambitious and hard-working player. I have very big dreams. But I don’t just dream. I work very hard to make my dreams reality. I train hard every day, put in extra hours in the gym and on the ice so that I can get better and better. And as everybody knows: Hard work pays off and thankfully it already did pay off. Over the course of the last 2-3 years I made a big jump. I didn’t only develop my playing skills fast, but also improved my physical strength, my decision making process on the ice and much more.Furthermore, I got offers from a DNL 1 Team (Augsburg Panthers; Best U20 National League) and was offered to train and also already involved in talks over a so called "Fördervertrag" (Development Contract with professional teams) with our first Team, that played in the DEL 2 (2nd best Men’s National League) and now plays in the DEL (Best Men’s National League).
Studying and playing in America is not only part of my dream since the 7th grade but also can help me reach my bigger goals and dreams.
I know America is the best option for me because I know I can expand my abilities and skills there the best. Furthermore, it is known that the United States have the best Universities worldwide. Looking at my idols, like e.g. Johnny Gaudreau, Charlie McAvoy and Jack Eichel, who played for several Universities in the US I want to become just like them because they are simply incredible hockey players and I inspire to have a work ethic like theirs.
If I get the chance to play in the United States it would mean the world to me. Not only will I work hard to stay in that position but I look forward to the development that will come with it.
Thanks for your Time Coach!
I hope to hear from you soon
Best Regards
Adam Zoweil

Role in the team
On my team I am a leader on and of the ice. Not only was I the assistant captain last year with the U17 and this year with the U20, but I also tried to push and motivate my team all the time. During hard and tough times, like when we lost a couple of games, one after another, but also when we were just down one goal. But I am not only talking, I am trying to show them on the ice how motivated and passionate I am. I fight till the end so that everybody can learn from me. Also, my skills allow me to make my teammates better on the ice so we can win as a team.
Strengths
I am a very hard hardworking player who is always staying positive. That way I am able to push my team. Looking at my skills, I think that I have great hands and a precise and fast shot. Over the years I learned a lot of moves, which I use in my game in order to make creative plays that benefit my team the most. I am also a very fast Forward. Over the years. But I am still working on all skills as i know they can get better each day. That’s why I am always trying to get better. On the Ice I got a good eye. I keep my head up so that I can see all my options. Mostly I am able to choose the right decision and thereby make smart plays. I also think that a strength of mine is that I never try to look for excuses. I try to look for the mistakes I've made in order to improve each and every time.
Still to improve
In the past one of my major problems was my weight and my size. I was not capable of winning against bigger opponents and assert myself. By starting to go to the gym, working on my physical strength and gaining weight I was able to compromise this issue. I improved my physical game and am able to hit opponents and to win a lot of 1 on 1’s. One remaining weakness that I still have to strengthen is my ability to receive and pass pucks perfectly. Sometimes I do miss passes by inches, which can make the difference. But as hard as I am working on that I should improve this deficiency soon.
One further weakness in my past years was the "amount" of stickhandling I did. Not regarding how good I am able to accomplish moves, but rather how often and when I dribble the puck. As I got older I realized how fast the game gets. I was able to adjust to the game. I reduced how often I dribble during I play, which led to me gaining important seconds, I can use to make big plays.
Still, I think I have to improve this weakness as I can win even more time.
These are my main weaknesses I am working on focused next to also trying to improve every other part of my game.
Miscellaneous information:
In the course of the past years I had to cope with many difficulties and weaknesses. But I was able to use this time to improve myself. And today I am playing my best game. I am sure that I will always improve in the further course of my career. I am a person who can adapt quickly and learn very fast. Accordingly, I think that I will be a great addition to your team.

Evaluation of the season 2020/21:
This year has been very successful. Not only did I improve my skills and become faster in my skating and decision making, but I also learned to play against bigger and stronger opponents. I was able to convince my coaches with my style of play, which is why I got the chance to be in our power play-, penalty kill- and 6on5 formations as well as I was allowed to play in the Overtime and be a shooter in the shootout. Furthermore, I was able to score 12 points in 11 games (counted by our coaches) after being the top scorer last year. Unfortunately, our season was paused at the beginning of November. However, the positive thing is that it will still continue and I can make this season even better than it already is.
Stats 21/22 (so far)
28 games played
Points: 33
Assists: 21
Goals: 12
Evaluation of the 2021/22 Season:
So far this season has been a great success, for me and our whole team . We are currently the favourite for the upcoming playoffs in order for us to get the promotion. Personally, I also was able to again improve my physical game and got used to playing against bigger players and, more importantly, got to learn how to resist against those and to win important 1v1. I also was able to improve my reaction to and consciousness of a situation in the offensive, but also in the defensive zone by for example using my physicality more, as you will see in my highlight-video.
Local Successes
Part of the Baden Wuerttemberg selection team and national team camp. Wasn’t able to promote myself to the national team because I had an Egyptian and not a German citizenship.
National Successes
Promotion to the 1st U17 National League
Promotion to the 2nd U20 National League (probably)
Topscorer of our League
Miscellaneous Successes
Offers to play for a DNL 1 Team(Best Youth National League)
Offered to possibly train with or play for the men's Team in the DEL/DEL2 (1st and 2nd best men's national League )
My Plan for the upcoming season:
Since I graduated from high school in July 2021, I planed to take a gap year to focus on hockey and my development. Therefore, I wanted to play juniors at the highest level possible in the US in the 2021-22 season. Sadly, due to the boarders being closed to germans until November 2021, I was not able to fly over. Still, as I think that the US is the place, where I can develop the most I want to go to the US for the upcoming season. After all, I want to show the coaches of all the colleges that I would be a great addition to their team.
Recommendation from my former Coach:
I coached Adam last season and I enjoyed that experience a lot. He‘s a very hard worker and is always trying to find ways to get better. Adam is very coachable and extremely motivated.
He‘s one of those players You have to stop sometimes from overdoing it with the workload.
Quick skater with good hands and a good shot. Creativ in the offensive zone. Because he was such an ambitious and skilled player he wasnt only allowed to train with the U20 but also play for them.
Passing and receiving the pass is what I always adressed, although he was able to improve his passing and receiving abilities immensely during the season. He also tends to put pressure on himself and gets a bit frustrated when he doesn’t succeed. Controlling it would help him a lot to show even more what he‘s got and help him to get better.
Not going towards crowded areas and protecting the puck was a small issue in the beginning of the season but it got way better as the season went on.
His D-Zone was great. It was always important for him to help the team on both sides of the ice.
Adam is a leader that always tries to motivate his teammates. He was respected and liked.
What I enjoyed as a coach was his open art. He often came an asked for advice but also gave me his ideas of making the team better.
Hope it helps You to get an overall picture as a player and as a person.
With best regards,
Adam Borzecki
