Personal Statement
I desire to play ice hockey at a high level, while pursuing my collegiate studies. Through years of team sports, I've developed an appreciation for collaborative problem solving, while as a goalie I've developed a strong sense of self motivation and personal responsibility. I believe these strengths will contribute to a successful collegiate career, as both a student and an athlete.
I'm ambitious and a hard worker, working tirelessly to improve my physical fitness, my goalie technique, my mental performance, and my academic development. In my hockey career, I've routinely played up an age division or two, despite having a December birthday, meaning I was often the youngest on even my own team. Additionally, I was a late bloomer in terms of size, almost always the smallest goalie on the ice. Because of this, I learned to overcome my lack of size through utilizing my athleticism and hand-eye coordination, constantly working to improve both. This approach to addressing a shortcoming through featuring my strengths and working continuously on self improvement has served me well, especially as I grow into my frame and play against players my own age.
My approach to school is the same. I understand that nothing is going to be easy, and that if I'm to succeed, I need the same non-stop motor that has helped me thrive in hockey. I'm an International Baccalaureate (IB) student pursuing a diploma program (DP) focused on advanced science and history courses, as I believe these subjects will prepare me for success wherever my college career, and professional career after, takes me. I'm pursuing an exchange program to add to my international experience - I'm dual-national, speak four languages, and have lived in Germany for the past 6 years. I've learned growth is only possible through challenging yourself, and I intend to do everything I can to grow myself all I can in school and in hockey.
