Growing up in the OMHA as a hockey player, I have always been inspired and dreamed of earning a Red Hat while maintaining the status of a scholar athlete. I also believed in being a well rounded athlete by playing both soccer and hockey for many years. It wasn't until I was 11 years old that I had to make that difficult decision to follow one path and focus on being the best that I can be as a hockey player. I have been passionate about the game since four years old and every year I continue to develop my athletic talent in the GTHL. Through sport, I have learned how to be a strong leader, effective team player, and great communicator. I have also developed excellent time management skills, I work hard, and I am dedicated and committed to everything I do, both on the ice and in the classroom. I set high expectations and pride myself on achieving Principal's Award every year. So, I know that nothing comes easy in life and in order to be successful, it requires time, effort, and I need to be confident and believe in myself. I need to compete with "me", know the potential that lies beyond, and push myself to be that much better every day. When I achieve high academic performance and look at my 2 Red Hats, I am reminded of my goals and what I can be! Fortunately, hockey has also allowed me to develop resiliency and adversity. In academics and in sport, I have experienced negative situations, mistakes, set-backs, and even losses. However, over the years, my parents have taught me that mishaps will happen and they are a part of life. No one wants to be on a low performing team or be that player that gets cuts from a team. But, how I choose to deal with those situations is what makes me better and offers a great life lesson - work hard, try your best, and make a difference no matter what!
