My name is Nolan Morena, I am an 18-year-old Ice Hockey goaltender in Portland, Oregon. I am an extremely determined student-athlete with a massive desire to further my academic and athletic career in college. On the academic side, in college I would like to study the field of sports medicine, including topics such as kinesiology, physical therapy, and athletic training. As for athletics, I have a great desire to play collegiate hockey. I want to become the best goaltender I can be, and I am willing to be the hardest working student-athlete on the ice, in the gym, in the classroom, on campus, and off campus. After college, I would like to bring my college education of sports medicine and turn it into a career helping young athletes, more specifically young goaltenders. I would like to not only teach young goaltenders how to become excellent athletes, but excellent goaltenders as well, as I aspire to be a goaltending coach in the future as well.
I am an excellent candidate for a collegiate-level ice hockey team for many reasons. First of all, I have an extraordinarily great desire to become the best student-athlete I can become. As mentioned above, I will be the hardest working student-athlete on the ice, off of the ice, in the gym, in the classroom, on campus, and beyond college. I work extremely hard every day to achieve this. I have a great belief that you can become 1% better in anything and everything you do as long as you work hard. I am aware that there is always room for improvement and I am willing to do anything and everything possible everyday to become the best person I can. Secondly, I am an excellent leader and try my hardest to bring a large sense of maturity to any situation I can, whether that be academic or athletic. Although I am not able to receive a letter on my jersey representing my captain status, my coach has entrusted me with the ability to have a leadership role both on and off of the ice. My leadership and maturity is often rewarded with opportunities to coach young goaltenders. I am often given the opportunity to coach goalies at goalie clinics and at hockey camps. For example, elite-level coaches including Kyle Gustafson, who has coached at both the NHL and WHL level have entrusted me with the role of goalie coach at his camps. Lastly, I am excellent at problem-solving and I am willing to overcome any challenges that I am faced with.
