I lost my dad when I was 4. My mom had been a goalie and I looked to hockey for comradery, support and friendship. Along with this, I found discipline, focus, training and the ability to acquire knowledge, experience, and skills that has and will lead me in the direction to prevail over life's challenges and engage with determination to make the most of who I am.
I think what does set me apart is loss. I value so much of every moment I get. I find the joys in simple things like hanging out with my dog or playing the Ukelele or listening to my grandma's stories about the "war." I admire her so much, her courage, determination, struggles for survival to come out on top. I understand that you can lose, you can suffer but what I have received from playing hockey, is to develop an instinctual response to prevail. So, I face each day to give my best and I work hard to be the team player able to face the demanding journey of being a goalie.
My goal for the future is to be a nurse, possibly an Army nurse and of course!....to play hockey. Both give me the ability to be a part of a team, to serve others with the common goal of success, whether that be a win, or to have survived or lost, either way, to come away having contributed and focused towards personal growth.
