My biggest influencers in my life are my brothers. Growing up with two older brothers and always wanting to be like them meant I always was around them and their friends. This challenged me and allowed me to always be more mature for my age. Next would be my parents and grandparents, as they always allowed me to be in diverse situations and form my own opinion, but then be able to discuss these opinions after.
My interest in sports and specifically hockey came from my brother. Growing up my family was always active in sports, swimming, baseball, basketball, football, soccer and hockey, which allowed me to develop a quick sense for competition. We all played sports together and hockey is the sport I fell in love with, not only for the fun of it but the deeper meaning I developed for it through middle school and high school. I always wanted to be better than my older brothers in something and hockey was that option for me.
Hockey has taught me the true meaning of hard work and respect. Both those words go hand and hand. These two habits allow the sport to teach you more than habitual ways, but also its many life lessons. Each hockey challenge, teaches you a new approach to life, problem solving, determination, mental and physical toughness, along with compassion, love, charity, friendship, and family.
My academic goals are to be able to fully commit myself to classes I love, and challenge myself each day in these classes. This can vary from honors classes to main stream classes as long as I find myself challenged and happy I meet my academic goals.
Obstacles in life have always been fighting and working for everything that I have. I like the idea of an underdog it always appealed to me. I've always been one myself fighting for each roster spot not to prove others wrong but to prove to myself that it is possible. This applies to me for everything in life including work, coaching, sports, school, and life's hard lessons. Ive always been able to come from behind.
I am unique in the idea that I have my own sense of humor, I can always find a way in a situation to crack a joke to try and lighten the mood, but I can also be the most intense and intimidating person to be around. I have always been able to see the best in every person and situation to stick it out. One of my final qualities I am proud of is ability to be others source of strength. This strength can come from a laugh, a person to talk to for advice, someone to listen or a person who can relate. It is so recognizable I was selected by my high school to attend classes for people with these strengths to educate others and strengthen my own abilities while doing so.
