Hello, my name is Michel-Jose Rocheleau but to my family, friends, classmates, coaches, and teammates I am known as MJ. I currently attend Pilgrim High School in Warwick, Rhode Island (Class of 2018) and am the starting varsity hockey team goalie.
Even though it is early in my high school and hockey career my goal of attending college and playing college hockey has never been stronger. College itself has always been a goal for me, but to be able to continue playing hockey in college is a dream. I know there are many goalies playing the sport and share many of the same goals I have, however my experience is what separates me. This year as a freshmen I had the honor to be the starting goalie and during the high school season I faced many different on ice challenges that up to now playing hockey and goalie I had not. Challenges that helped me to mature and become a better student athlete on ice, off ice, and in the classroom. After not winning a game all season and games where I was facing 50 shots at a time I felt like quitting, but I didn’t and I don’t, instead I push myself harder than ever to try to give my team a chance, I listen to my coaches, and I look to improve my game each time.
I’m a coachable person and the goals I set for myself every practice and game are to stay mentally strong, work on my weaknesses, and battle for everything. I keep pushing myself even if I don’t think I can give no more. I take the same approach with my academics. I am very athletic, happy, and can bring up the team when we are down. Like many coaches tell me, no matter what is happening I always have a smile on my face, this is how I am. I love playing the game of hockey, I love just being out on the ice and playing with my team no matter the outcome.
As I move thru high school getting closer to college and playing the game I love I will continue to work hard academically and in sports looking forward to what the opportunities will bring to compete at the next level.
Thank you for taking the time to get to know me.
MJ
