I have dual citizenship for Canada and Finland, maybe no surprise why I love to play hockey - I was born in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada, but started my hockey career in Helsinki Finland after my family moved to Europe. I played in Finland for only a few years, then moved to Memphis, TN area with my family. We were fortunate that a new ice rink opened the same month we moved to the Memphis area, allowing me to continue playing. Along with house league hockey, I earned a spot on a tournament team with my older brother. I was the youngest on the team, with other players 2 and 3 years older, but I was able to keep up and contribute. I played "travel hockey" out of Memphis with my age group until I was 12, then required to play for teams out of Nashville, TN, and Northern Alabama to roster on teams at a competitive level. The player numbers in Memphis could not sustain a competitive travel team, but I continued to play House/School hockey during the week while in school, and travel hockey teams in other cities on the weekends. My last 3 years I've been with competitive clubs based in Northern Alabama, where I've made significant contributions (top scoring for 3 years) in offensive roles 5 v 5, powerplay, in addition playing minutes on the penalty kill. I strive to contribute to team chemistry, team play and leading with a competitive attitude, as I did when I was 6, playing with 9 yr old's. This season I was voted by my team mates and coach to be an Assistant Captain which I am proud of, and take seriously providing leadership, on and off the ice.
During my time away from high school studies and clubs, I skate several times a week year round, work out, golf, play guitar, work part time at the local ice rink and spend time with family and friends. As a senior in high school, I am focused on my studies working hard to improve my grades, while balancing sports, and personal interests. For college, I am interested in a business degree, but also considering aviation (pilot), or becoming a teacher/coach (several teachers in my family).
I believe I would be an excellent candidate for prospective hockey teams because I eager to learn new skills and systems, work well with coaches, take praise and criticism constructively, and truly a team player. Year over year I typically tally as many assists as I do goals! I am very confident in my abilities but feel I am "quietly confident", modest, mature, and sincere, which makes me approachable by many friends, and a leader.
