Though I wasn’t born with a silver hockey stick in my hand, hockey has always been a part of my life; from floor hockey at the church gym to pond hockey with my family. I have a deep love for the game and respect for the athletic skill required to play it. Through hours of practice and training both on and off the ice, I have worked to become a valuable forward, playing either center or left wing, excelling in shooting and speed.
My first year, I was playing with players that had been playing for many years, some playing for Montana’s only AA team, and I felt pretty overwhelmed. I thought that if I worked at one thing and became the best at it I would feel more comfortable overall, so I made a goal to become the fastest on my team. Three weeks later with the guidance and encouragement of my coaches and concentrated effort, I was. I would finish ladders first, win every puck battle, and push the pace of the game. Through this I learned that it wasn’t enough to just work hard; to improve, I also needed to be coachable. I enjoy taking the expertise and experience of more seasoned players and coaches and putting it to work for me to improve my skills and team stats. If I could describe myself in one word, it would be determined. I achieve the goals I set, and I work very hard to do so.
I work equally as hard off the ice as I do on the ice. Maintaining integrity and being a good example is important to me. I study hard in school and maintain a 3.8 GPA or above. I recognize school as a priority and study diligently to be successful there. Though I have not determined what area of study I want to focus on yet, I am interested in pursuing college courses that focus on engineering, math, and business. I am an active member of the LDS church where I participate in worship services weekly and do service for the community. I enjoy other activities as well such as biking and skiing where I push my limits by attempting new tricks. I also enjoy music and am an accomplished cellist. No matter what activity I am doing, I approach it with the same drive and determination to become better.
I believe I am an asset to any team due to my tenacious attitude and natural leadership ability. I am willing to play at any level in any division. I would love to play in the northern United States but still welcome the opportunity to play anywhere. I will continue playing and improving because I believe there is always more to learn.
