Discipline - Consistency - focus - Drive - Sacrifice - Determination - Respect for myself and others
These are the terms I use to describe myself. They define who I strive to be and what I take pride in as an athlete and as a person. These concepts drive my lifestyle, habits, and views. Whether it's in the gym throwing weights to gain strength and weight, on a field working on explosive power thru tension training, flexibly and cardio on the track, it's all what combines to make the body of who I am. But physical condition isn't all that makes an athlete; my determination to set goals and visions then make them a reality, to become the cornerstone that coaches, teammates, and coworkers can rely on, to give respect where it's earned and deserved, to compete and drive others around me to become all our best. Being able to focus and stay motivated through loss, pain and struggle are hard; it's where most fail or give up, its where many lose sight of what got them started and why they tried to begin with. I pride myself on my tunnel vision, building off those hardships, moving past and learning from mistakes, understanding there will be highs and lows but always striving for continuous improvement.
IQ - Speed - Technique – Stickhandling – Aggression – Passion – Coachability
These are attributes that all goalies must possess. But I find the meaning, value and true definition behind those words. And I find that these concepts are interconnected, building off of and feeding into each other. Through my capacity to learn, adapt and improve, I feel I am among that small percentage of players who will take my game to the next level. The higher the level of competition, the smarter I become. From recognizing and understanding systems, to staying current with the latest concepts, techniques, saves, I am confident in my positioning, foot work, technique, post play, angles, save selection, stickhandling abilities and situational awareness. I recognize that the goaltending is not a solitary position but part of a defensive system. I work with my defensive lines, playing the puck, making passes and plays for the breakout, becoming a contributing 6th player on the ice. I pride myself on having that upper hand and my ability to overcome challenges, not letting a mistake or a goal settle in my thoughts, and grinding to be the best I can be and remaining consistent while doing so.
