Personal Statement

Going to the CIF finals back to back has been the highlight on my lacrosse career so far.  I was fortunate to be part of an amazing high school program lead by Kyle Harrison, and I look forward to the next 2 years with Brendan Fowler as our new coach.  Until last year I was a 2 sport athlete playing both soccer and lacrosse.  I played club level soccer for 8 years and I was the starting right back (defender) on my high school’s soccer team.   In addition to providing teamwork experience, soccer also helped me with spatial awareness on the lacrosse field.  I have been playing lacrosse year round for the past 3 years (both box and field lacrosse) and this past lacrosse season I played a lot of defensive midfield, which capitalized on my defensive capabilities.  My team jokingly calls the defensive midfield positon “all guts, no glory” but I embraced the role because I enjoy the action of the attackmen trying to match up on my short stick.  When I am able to check the ball to the carpet, my fitness allows me to quickly scoop and transition coast to coast for a quick counter attack.  I also played as the back-up face off man, and generally would stay on even after the face off.  I was thrilled when my coaches took notice of my work ethic and leadership efforts by naming me a defensive captain.

I am looking for a program that will be a good fit for me both athletically and academically.  I believe I have the talent to be competitive at the college level, as well as the work ethic, character and leadership skills.  I am also definitely open to relocating from my home state of California because the right college fit is more important to me than a school’s geographic location or its size.  Thank you for your consideration.
