Lacrosse became a passion of mine since the first time I played in middle school. Even though I wrestled and played football since I was five years-old, my interest in lacrosse quickly became my priority. At this point I can’t imagine my life without lacrosse once high school ends. It’s become part of my identity that I take pride in and always look forward to.
Being a three-sport athlete prepared me for high school where I was the only freshman on the Varsity team. Wrestling taught me when facing your opponent that it’s up to you to prove yourself for success. There’s a lot of pressure with everyone watching you on the mat, but there’s so much pride in the fight and technique. Bringing my versatile skills, mental strength, discipline, and commitment, I earned the respect of the upperclassman on the team.
Even though my sophomore year, what would’ve been our team’s breakout year, was cancelled and a huge disappointment, I was just happy to get to play again. We were low on participation, so I gave up my defensive role to primarily play mid-field for the first time unless I was needed on defense. For me, the team aspect of lacrosse is different than other sports. The camaraderie is genuine on and off the field. I believe teamwork and bonding is critical to its success, while being fulfilling at the same time.
I don’t believe that my academics truly represent what I am capable of. Other than life obstacles, Covid created an unusual education experience that was hard to navigate. I like the idea of a fresh start with being surrounded by education focused peers and teammates. Lacrosse has helped me overcome life challenges. It has been a positive outlet to always work on being my best. Whether it’s putting more time studying or pushing harder at practice, I know I will get out what I put in.
I am not the loudest kid in the room that needs to be the center of attention. I am not the type of kid to lose my cool or brag. I let my hard work speak for itself. As a player I am confident, technical, have strong lacrosse IQ, and am composed. I take charge and make sure we are all communicating.
I am searching for a program that is a good fit for me on and off the field with the right balance of academics and athletics, at the right school with the right team. I want to mesh with the coaches and players. I want coaches that lead us on the field and are mentors when were off. I want to contribute to the team success, ideally during my freshman year.
