I woke up academically first semester freshman year!
I started off the first semester freshman year with an unacceptable effort academically and realized halfway through that semester I needed to adjust to high school. I realized there was no way C's in my core classes were acceptable. I turned the corner second semester and worked hard to have a 3.0 GPA. I've started the 2015-16 school year working even harder. My academic work ethic is now equal to my practice work ethic.
I started to shoot on goal 4 times a week, work on my dodging and stick skills and most of all get bigger, faster, stronger. In the past 7 months I have put on 10 pounds, lowered my 40 time, and have increased all maximums off my lifts, along with that my shot speed and accuracy has improved.
Besides improving academically and physically I've improved on being a better teammate. Being positive is a very important part of playing lacrosse and I needed to improve that. In the beginning of this past spring season I realized right away that the talent and skill level on my high school team was different from my club team. This made me a negative player on and off the field. Being the leader of the team I quickly realized my attitude needed to change. When my teammates made mistakes, like we all do, I pulled them to the side and explained the correct way to do it. I would always encourage my team to stay after practice to get extra reps in, hit the weight room and watch lacrosse videos on YouTube of the best college players. During the end of the season I gained my teams respect and we won the last four out of five games. Although not making the varsity was a disappointment, I made a positive out of my freshman year.
