My name is Matthew Selan and I started playing lacrosse in the fourth grade. The first time I stepped on the lacrosse field, I fell in love with the game. I see lacrosse as a challenge and I want to be the best. Most people use books or music to relax or get away from their troubles, but I go outside and shoot the lacrosse ball. When you watch me play, you will see me make the extra pass or get a ground ball in a clutch situation. You will hear my voice from the next field over because I am constantly communicating with my teammates on both sides of the ball.
I strive to lead by example on the field, in the classroom, and in my community. To help grow the game, I started helping coach my elementary school's third and fourth grade lacrosse team. In the ninth grade, I became a certified lacrosse official.
Although I have not made a decision on a major, I am leaning toward business or economics as I enjoy listening to economics podcasts in my spare time. I will be just as excited to sit in a college classroom as participate in a college lacrosse game.
I am excited for the challenges that lay ahead for me at St Charles - the challenge of trying to win a lacrosse state championship and the challenge of excelling in a tough educational environment.
