My name is Lucas Dieter and I’m a goalie from Portland, Oregon. I started playing lacrosse in the 3rd grade, I never really knew about lacrosse until I was recommended to play by a good friend and that season I started playing for my local rec team. My first memory from the team was at the first practice when the coach asked who wants to play goalie today and everyone went silent. After a second I volunteered and after that day I’ve never looked back. Ever since that day I’ve been challenging myself to get better whether that's hitting the wall, watching games, or practicing with the team. I believe that the most important keys to having a successful team are having a tight knit group, having confidence, and putting in maximum effort no matter what the situation is.
In my freshman year of high school I was lucky enough to have an opportunity to start on the varsity team. It was the best group of guys I’ve ever got on the field with and we were preparing for months. Then 2 days before our first game everything got shut down because of covid. This motivated me more than anything because all I wanted was an opportunity to prove myself, and it helped make me so much stronger as a player.
I’m so thankful for all of the different coaches I’ve had throughout the years and how they have shaped me as a person and a player. Playing club lacrosse for teams like Madlax and 3d has really helped me refine my skills and develop as a player. Since I’ve got influence from so many different types of coaches I feel like I’ve become really well rounded as a player and I’m confident in all parts of my game. I take pride in being a leader of the defense and being very vocal on the field as well.
