Personal Statement

I feel fortunate to have had the chance to grow up in a strong lacrosse community here in Roanoke, Virginia. I currently play on a top level high school team, and have done this since my freshman year for state lacrosse coach of the year, Josh Wilkinson. My high school team, the Patrick Henry Patriots, won the state championship three years ago. I have played club lacrosse since 4th grade, and have played on teams which have consistently won tournaments around the region.

My strengths with regard to lacrosse lie in my exceptional athleticism. I have very strong time and room , and step down shots - both high and low release, and from both sides. I am also a strong dodger both ways, and am great at clearing the ball under pressure. I can score from X in several different ways and from both sides. I like to play aggressive defense as well as assist other players who have better scoring opportunities. I am quick and have great stamina since I run in the off season, play basketball and lift weights. Also, my coaches tell me that I am very coachable as well as a key team player.

Academically, I am a solid student who is on the A-B Honor Role, and I’m interested in obtaining a business degree from a well-regarded business department. I hope to own my own business some day. Currently, I help my father with his business, work a part time job, and participate in community service. As for the rest of the time, you will probably find me out fishing on one of our local rivers or lakes in my kayak.

I am looking for an excellent opportunity to be challenged and to grow as a lacrosse player as well as in the classroom. I believe that I am a strong enough player that I can make an immediate and positive impact on your program, and that I  have the character and self-disciple to help you to lead your team as well.

Thank you for for taking the time to consider me for your team.

Due to the cancellation of the 2020 high school lacrosse season, my highlight video is much less than I’d hoped it would be at this point. I was planning on a great season with many more examples of my lacrosse skill set to share.  The current video is primarily from one Baltimore tournament this fall, which was a national elite tournament which drew in teams from around the country, including one from Canada.  I was planning  on editing out the missed shots in this video and  then replacing them with new footage from this spring - but no luck there. Hopefully we will be back to normal in the fall.

Evan Henny

.........

To Whom It May Concern,

It is my distinct pleasure to vouch for the talent and work ethic of Evan Henny. I have coached Evan Henny for several years as a part of both Patrick Henry High School varsity lacrosse program as well as Valley Select travel lacrosse program. On every team at every level, Evan has proved vital to team success. As an athlete, Evan possesses the intangibles that coaches look for; speed, instinct, and dedication. As a young man, Evan possesses equally as valuable intangibles; respect, perseverance, and ambition.

On the lacrosse field, I have seen the transformation of Evan’s lacrosse ability. He has grown from a naturally gifted young athlete to a polished high school lacrosse player. He has the instincts for finding open space on offense, a comprehensive understanding of team defense, and the athletic gifts in the open field to be successful at the collegiate level.

The trait that inspires me above all others, to thoughtfully recommend Evan to any collegiate lacrosse program, is his drive to become a better lacrosse player at any cost. Evan approached me in the spring of his Sophomore season looking for help on improving his game to be able to contribute materially to the Varsity program in the seasons ahead. Evan set aside time beyond practice and beyond the weekly confines of school to meet me on the weekend and train. We worked on footwork, technique, stick skills when other kids were lounging, gaming, and otherwise having fun. When I began to wane in energy and curriculum at the end of our sessions, Evan persisted

I feel very confident in recommending such a student athlete to any program at the collegiate level. He will be an asset and a fine addition to any roster.

 Sincerely,

 Frank Boxley III
