My dad introduced me to lacrosse when I was in second grade and I played on the 3/4 team because there was not a team for second graders. I enjoy the sport for the physical contact, good conditioning, hand-eye coordination skills, and the fun I have with teammates. I have played for Stanwood Lacrosse every year until freshman year in high school. I have been fortunate to play several summers with select teams. In 2015 I played with the Bellingham Steelheads, in 2017 with the Snohomish Time Bandits, and was on the 2018 summer 2021 travel team with CitySide LAX. I played indoor lacrosse with Time Bandits fall 2017. I was selected for the North Sound Lacrosse League All-Star team in 2016 and 2017. The all-star game was a lot of fun and a great experience to play with teammates I had just met.
During summer of 2018 I played with CitySide LAX, I went to lacrosse training camp at Goucher 6/24-6/27, and Trilogy 24 on 6/28-6/30. Then in July we traveled to Salt Lake City for the Legends Invitational 7/11-13, where we won first place. Our final trip was to participate in the NXT Philly Invitational 7/14-15. Chris O'Dougherty was our coach and Jules Heningburg joined us as a coach in Salt Lake.
Summer, 2019, I played on the Time Bandits HS Elite team and participated in several tournaments We won our division in Park City Utah and I scored the winning goal in overtime, (June 27th-30th) , next was Bend Oregon where we won the championship for our division, (July 19th-21st) and finally, South Sound Summer Slam in Tacoma WA (July 12th-14th).
As a freshman, I made the Varsity team for Stanwood Lacrosse and became a starter. We had a great season and finished 2nd in the Wesco Conference. We went to the final four/semi-finals but lost to Bellevue High School.
Spring, (2019), our Stanwood High School Boys team was forced to split due to WHSBLA regulations against conglomerate teams. The Arlington Lacrosse Club was created and we had our first season. I will be honest that it was a challenge playing with mostly inexperienced players and we only won one game. I was a team captain and earned the Offensive MVP ward. We had excellent experienced coaches, one was a semi-pro player and the other 4 were experienced college players.
Like all other lacrosse teams, our 2020 season was cut short due to Covid. I practiced at home and with my brother, (who plays lacrosse at Baldwin Wallace University), when he came home from college and all summer until he went back.
This year, 2021, we were able to field a team of 17 players on the Varsity team with several brand new players and some with 2019 being their first year of lacrosse. We had a small core group of experienced players, one of which started with me in second grade. We had a new experienced head coach who I knew through the Stanwood club, and 3 very experienced coaches as well. I played midfield, attack, and close defense on man down. We placed second in the Wesco Division 2 conference and lost by one point in the last minute of the championship game. Toward the end of the season due to injuries, we had 15 healthy players but managed to hold our own. I made the all Wesco D2 first team at the attack position. I was one of the team captains and help run captains practices before the official practices,. During the regular season, I played in 13/13 games, and averaged 4 goals per game, had a season total of 27 goals, 13 assists, and 73 ground balls. My coach nominated me for the US Lacrosse All-Academic award, and I recently found out that I was one of the winners.
I believe I am a good candidate for a college men's lacrosse team because I am athletic, have a strong work ethic, and am determined to constantly improve my skills. I am respectful, teachable, and am a team player. My high lacrosse IQ has been developed by having played every position including goalie when I first started playing lacrosse. This has allowed me to learn both defense and offense. I think playing lacrosse in college would be a good balance to my academic experience and help me be part of a community right away. Being around other students with similar academic goals and standards would inspire me to do my best.
I have been admitted to Colorado State University to the Biomedical/Mechanical Engineering program, have completed orientation and am finishing up my placement exams to finish registration. I was awarded the WUE academic Scholarship.
In high school I played the drums in the pep band, and played baritone saxophone in the symphonic band. I was active in the Ultimate Frisbee Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and volunteered at church. I was a member of the National Honor Society.
We did not get a lot of video footage during the 2021 season and will be adding what I do have soon.
