To Whom It May Concern:
I am Ryan Sanchez, a junior at Ernest McBride High School in Long Beach, California. I am engaged in rigorous, “real-world” learning. This high school has a health and medical fields pathway option of which I am a participant. To this end, my current course load includes: AP English Language and Composition, AP Psychology, AP United States History, AP Calculus, and Honors Anatomy/Physiology. These courses will help me to develop experience in the medical field. I am also becoming familiar with other aspects of the medical field with career explorations in medical terminology psychology and a course in Intro to Medical Assisting.
In addition to my scholarly endeavors, I have developed a passion for rowing. This interest in rowing began in the summer of 2016 during summer camp at Long Beach Junior Crew. I am now in my first season as a rower. As a member of the Novice Men's team at Long Beach Junior Crew, I have improved my ERG scores by over a minute within a month and currently have the 4th fastest time on my team. I am very interested in taking my skills to the next level as a collegiate rower and am very confident that I would be a great fit for a college program. Prior to rowing, I was involved in Mixed Martial Arts and Jiu Jitsu for 5 years. I competed in 4 tournaments for Jiu Jitsu in which I received 2 bronze and 2 silver medals. Participating in these sports has made learning about the human body all that more rewarding.
Giving back to the community is also very important to me. I work as a volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House, a charity for sick children and their families. I assist in preparing meals. I also have participated in multiple California beach cleanups and have organized with my friends a local effort to keep my community’s beaches and marine life safe and clean.
I look forward to speaking with you about becoming a student-athlete at your institution. I appreciate your taking the time to get to know me. I am aware of the advantages offered at your institution, and I am confident I would make an excellent student-athlete at your school.
Respectfully yours,
Ryan Sanchez
