I like to be challenged academically and have my sights set on a career in STEM; currently most interested in either engineering or biology. When I enjoy something, be it academically or in sports, I find it easy to focus and push myself to improve my skills; I enjoy working hard.
I really enjoy the collaborative aspect of crew and crew energizes me in a way no other sport has. I strive to make the most of my rowing abilities. I thrive when I am in an enriching environment and when I am in a boat with high-performing athletes like me. Being in the presence of strong, collaborative, and committed athletes elevates my drive and enthusiasm for the sport of crew. My coaches view me as an athlete who is consistent and reliable. I exercise my leadership and focus on encouragement, and problem solving to optimize the performance of our V1 crew, both on and off the water. I really enjoy helping my teammates and inspiring novice rowers to be the best they can be.
I row for a small school with a relatively small crew team which has fluctuating talent from year to year. As a sophomore, I rowed in our V1 Boys 4 that had great chemistry and strength which showed on the water and in races. Currently, in my junior year, we have limited athletes to build a boat as strong and cohesive as the previous year. I realize our victories will be few this season, so I focus on improving on comradery in hopes of a high performing team next year. Participate in summer rowing programs and a much larger Fall rowing Club enable me to further develop my rowing skills and diversify my rowing experience.
I consider myself compassionate, hardworking, and driven, but with a balanced approach. When I am off the water I enjoy skiing, hiking with my dog and spending time with friends. I also like trying new things, most recently golf, which makes rowing look easy! While STEM are areas where I see my future, I enjoy working with children and recently became a certified camp counselor (Aug 2023) as well as an American Red Cross certified lifeguard (Aug 2023) through an intensive training program. I will be working at a large overnight camp this summer.
I have always been inspired by upper classman who are exceptional rowers and coxswain and are great mentors and leaders. I see myself as doing the same and hope to progress this into the collegiate level.
