Personal Statement

As a novice rower I have attacked the challenges I’ve faced with both my competitive spirit and unwavering commitment.  Along with great coaching these traits have allowed me to progress rapidly in speed on both the erg and the water.  I have enjoyed every part of learning how to row from the day I started when I flipped multiple times in the single to the intense and challenging training my coach throws at me to this day.  I have adapted immensely over the course of the past 10 months both mentally and physically which has allowed me to compete at high levels and place well in these races (placing fourth at the FSRA Sculling Championship in the men’s junior heavyweight double, and 6th at CSSRA in a men’s senior heavyweight single). As a competitive person I thrive when the people around me are better than me and I am certain that my speed will continue to increase and my times continue to decrease while I am able to pursue my passion for math and chemistry at your university.

Training

  • Water Training(Technique)
  • 1 year
  • I trained on the water six times a week doing mostly high intensity interval training for the first nine months of my rowing career, but as of July 2023 I am training 1-2 times per week on the water and increasing my time on the erg drastically.
  • Weight Training
  • 1 year
  • I do weight training 4 times a week we mostly do heavy compound movements or use machines and most of are sets consist of 10-15 reps till failure. I started doing this training with one of my coaches in April 2023 after my coaches and I recognized that my lack of muscle was limiting my speed. Since I have started weight training, I have gone from 155 to 165 and plan to gain a lot more strength and muscle over the summer and upcoming seasons. I have already increased my watts from 766 to 850 in that first month of working out and plan to increase my watts to over 1000 by August 15th, 2023.
  • Erg Training
  • 1 year
  • I trained on the erg one to two times a week and did high intensity interval training mostly including 6 x 3 min, 6 x 500m, (8 x 1 min) x 2, 4 x 10 min for the first nine months I rowed; however, as of July 2023 I am going to train 8-9 times on the erg per week doing a personalized training plan given to me by Clark Dean.

NCSA COLLEGE RECRUITING®

NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the nation’s leading collegiate recruiting source for more than 500,000 student-athletes and 42,000 college coaches. By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
