Personal Statement
I am currently a freshman at St. Paul’s, a highly academic school in London. My passion is rowing, a sport which I first started at the age of 11 at a local club. At 14, I stroked St. Paul’s J14A to win the UK National Schools Regatta to make us the national champions in the UK in 2023. During the summer of 2023, I participated in rowing camp at the University of Virginia. This opportunity enabled me to develop my sweep rowing, improve my sculling technique and to learn more about US universities.
We are now mid-way through the 2024 season in the UK. Currently, I am stroking the J15A to an undefeated season in our category. Most recently, my boat won the Bedford Regatta. In a couple weeks, we have the National Schools Regatta which will be our real test.
My objective is to go to university in the USA where I would like to compete for a top Division I school. I consider myself a student athlete not just a jock. Therefore, I am keen to complement my rowing with a strong academic program. Academically, I excel at math, the sciences (i.e. physics and chemistry), but I also enjoy history.
My background is international. I was born in the UAE (Dubai) where my parents were working at the time. From the age of 5 until today, I have lived most of my life in the UK (London), however, I spend most of my summers in the USA, either at my grandparents’ house in Virginia or in Maine. I have an American, British and German passports, because my mother is German and father is American. I speak fluent German.
