Personal Statement

Rowing gives my life meaning, balance and discipline. By the time I leave high school, I would have rowed for five years with experience in the full range of boat classes. Sculls, Doubles, Pairs, Quads, Fours, Octopull and Eights. I prefer to row sweep oar. I am a committed member of the rowing club and currently serve in a leadership position as the Club Boatman, this in my Grade 11 year.

I come from a family with a proud rowing and sporting history. My grandfather was a Rugby Blue and rowed at Oxford as part of his training. My father represented his school nationally and his state, internationally. My brother represented his school nationally and has just been selected to study at Yale and join their Heavyweight Rowing Squad. I have just been selected onto the National Rowing Squad to join them at the years first training camp. I have represented my school nationally in the Junior Men's 1st; Eight, Coxless 4, Pair and my state, internationally.

My goals and aspirations are simple. I want to give of my best and be my best. I have been taught that you get out of life, what you put into life. This would be the case for my rowing, academics, family and community life.

My rowing goals are to be selected again this year, to represent my school and my country. By the time I leave school I would like to be sub 6:20 for my 2k ergo and to continue to add value to my crew by rowing to the best of my ability, leading, learning and teaching others what I have learnt. When I leave school, I wish to row at the highest possible level that I can achieve and importantly, give back to the sport and to continue enjoying every outing!

My academic aspirations are to achieve my Academic Honours in my Matric year. I am very focussed on my studies and intend to do the very best that I can academically.

I am a disciplined, loyal individual that sticks to the plan and makes a point of contributing positively. I don't like to "rock the boat", I like to "steady the boat"! I am a team player and understand the importance of team work. I like to focus on being an all rounder in all spheres of my life.
