Personal Statement
I am Eren, a rising junior at Robert College in İstanbul, Turkey. Rowing has been a passion of mine since the start of the summer of 2021. Since the day I started, I knew that rowing would be a part of my life, and I know that it will still be a part of my life when I get into college. I started rowing as a hobby, which I then also got my cousin and my brother into. After two full years of training together, we were getting serious and had the opportunity to compete together in the 4X+ category. In my first year of competing, I competed in 2 races. In my first race, my team ranked 8th out of 9 teams, which was disappointing at first but then became a source of motivation for me to train harder. After more training, in my 2nd race, my team ranked 6th out of 11 teams, which was actually very rewarding after countless days of training. Since then, my passion for rowing kept growing rapidly with the goal of winning a medal someday.
I also wanted this passion of mine to be a part of my school life. Therefore, this year, I created the Varsity Rowing Team for boys and girls in my school. This year we were a team of 12, and we'll continue with the same energy next year to hopefully compete in interscholastic races. Overall, rowing is a part of both my daily and academic life and I would love it to be like that in my college life as well.
