Personal Statement
I have always wanted to pursue a higher education after high school, continuing the sports I picked up in Year 7. Entering my high school, I was mostly an academic oriented student, who play cricket for my club and primary school, and I played cricket in my first season in Year 7, playing against some of the most prestigious schools in the country. After that, I started playing rugby and rowing, sticking to the sports all the way until my graduation. I am drawn to rowing due to the espirit de corps that is evident when sitting in a boat with 7 other blokes. I have been interested in doing either a political arts degree or an engineering degree, and after college, I wish to pursue a career either as an international affairs minister or as a mechanical engineer for a sports team. My desire to strive to achieve the highest academic standard possible, as well as being a great role model within my school, shown by the awards and extracurriculars I have under my belt. While taking extension 1 english and maths, I have also taken part in continual community service, raising money for foundations such as Jeans for Genes and the Legacy Foundation, and am the drum major in my schools cadet unit in the Australian Army Cadets program. I came third in a national cybersecutiry competition, and recieved a gold commendation from the head of cadets, Brigadier Ben Slaughter, and recieved the highest award for extra curricular participation in my school and school life with the Joseph Coates Award, and played the trombone for my schools marching band. I was also a peer mentor, a peer support leader, and help out at the try rowing and rugby days that our school holds every year, serving as a leader for junior students who are making the transition from primary school and into a much more active and hands on experience in high school. My desire for academic success allowed me to enter my school, which takes in students on a selective academic base as a top 15 percent student in the state, and as a natural born leader both on and off the field who loves to be a role model, I would always strive to be better in any way possible, and I would ensure that I bring my crew up with me. With all the sports, and extra curriculars I have taken part in, I have built resilience, respect, courage, integrity and teamwork, making me a recruit who has a different character and personal experience than other recruits, and hence, an athlete who won't give up, and always push myself and my crew to work harder.
