Personal Statement

I started rowing almost 5 years ago, during my 8th-grade year in middle school. Immediately I loved the precision, synchronization and beauty that rowing displays. Ever since then, I have been a very competitive athlete and love everything about rowing. I practice 5 days a week and erg every day. I am a little bit more developed on port side than starboard, but I am an experienced skuller as well.

I picture my college as a time to grow and further my skills in rowing and my field of study. My goal is to pursue a major in filmmaking and video production, which should help set me up for a career in the film industry. On the water, I plan to be a very dynamic and competitive athlete and have a positive influence on the team. Throughout my time as a college athlete, I want to grow my technique and performance to be an asset to the team and its members. More importantly, I will perform with respect and honor, whether that be in or out of the boat. I do this because I understand that reflecting my team and the school I attend is the backbone of who I am and who I represent.

Training

  • Tulsa gROWth Training Program
  • 1 year
  • Before becoming a novice on the Tulsa Youth Competitive team, I trained for 2 seasons on their rowing training program. We learned the basics of sculling and sweeping technique, how to care for a racing shell. How to use an ergometer properly and as effective as possible. We trained 3 days a week, 2 of which were inside doing erg pieces, core exercises, and cardio workouts. The program was on the water 1 day a week where we learned feathering techniques, blade work, handle height, balance, basic rowing commands, stroke rate control, stroke ratio, recovery and catch technique and many others.
  • Competitive Level Racing
  • 5 years
  • Attended numerous regattas in our region, I am very experienced with many different size regattas and teams. I have raced in venues from Austin, Dallas, Oklahoma City, Wichita, Des Moines, and Topeka in small and large regattas.
  • Ergometer/Cardio
  • 5 years
  • I have years of experience on the erg, and with almost every type of erg workout there is. I have experience in max power pieces, hour of powers, 30:30s, and much much more.

NCSA COLLEGE RECRUITING®

NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the nation’s leading collegiate recruiting source for more than 500,000 student-athletes and 42,000 college coaches. By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
