Personal Statement:
From the first time I went skiing with my dad at age 4, I have always had a love for sports. The combination of the outdoors, pushing my body to its physical limit, and intense competition has always made sports exhilarating for me while also being crucial to my mental and physical health.
Up until 8th grade, I was an avid select soccer player and a black belt in taekwondo. It was around the end of my middle school years though that I started to experience intense pain in my knees likely due to how fast I was growing and my flat feet. A rising 9th grader, I decided to focus less on soccer for the time being and try out rowing with my school instead.
I quickly found myself enjoying the sport due to the physical intensity and head to head competition it provided. Sadly my second season with the sport was cut short due to COVID-19. Due to safety protocols, my school team was taking a while to return to the water so in order to continue pushing myself in the sport, I decided to join a club called "Seattle Scullers."
I didn't fully fall in love and realize my ambition with rowing until the 2021 national regatta. I came to the competition largely unprepared and to put it simply, I got massacred. My defeat make me learn something though; it showed me that I wanted to take this sport to the next level. I told myself that 2 years from then I would be back, and I wasn't just going to be another meaningless name near the bottom of the list. Since arriving home from Florida with my newfound motivation, I've taken my rowing to the next level; getting on the water as much as a can while also erging and going to the gym constantly on my own time. Putting in this work, over the span of 5 months I was able to decrease my 2k time by 36 seconds. While I still have a long ways to go to achieve my goals, I plan on continuing to work and push myself these upcoming seasons.
