My name is Michael Charles McKay, although almost everyone (except my high school coach) calls me, Charlie. I am a senior in the Class of 2020 at Menlo-Atherton High School in Atherton, California and I live in Menlo Park. I have pursued a challenging course load over the past 3 years, including honors math and English, and AP classes in Computer Science, Comp Sci-Java and Biology. This year I am continuing that with AP Calculus, AP English and AP Environmental Sciences, but am also enjoying classes in photography and guitar. I have managed this load with a 4.03 weighted/3.75 unweighted GPA and have scored a 1340 on the SAT. I am seeking a college experience that will challenge me in the class as well as on the pitch.
I am passionate about goalkeeping. I discovered my love for it in AYSO community soccer and carried that up through club soccer with De Anza Force’s NPL teams to the DA program at Silicon Valley Soccer Academy this year. My hard work and determination have enabled me to grow and progress as both a player and person.
I have a natural instinct for shot stopping, using my 6’3” frame and 77” reach to cover goal with both positioning and reflexes. But I also take pride in the other aspects of my game: communication, decision-making, team positioning, and distribution, and I feel that my team can depend on my feet as well as my hands. I love to learn and to lead and would enjoy the opportunity to find a dynamic program and college where I can do both.
