For me high school has been challenging. It has caused me to mature and grow even when I did not know I needed it. It challenges me academically, athletically and mentally. Not only did I feel the need to focus on being one of the best in the sport I have loved since I was just a toddler but I also felt the need to focus on being the best in the classroom. In order for that to happen, for many years I spent countless hours studying and doing homework in the one hour car ride before and after soccer practices.
All the hard work has paid off. I made the Varsity Soccer team as a starter my freshman year and every year after that and the team captain during my Junior and Senior years. I also have been able to maintain a 4.0+ GPA while playing school sports, playing travel soccer, taking AP classes and now during my senior year taking college classes. Being a high achieving student-athlete, is important to me because I want to compete at the highest level possible but not just that. I also want to be successful academically.
Being an only child has pushed me to work harder for what I want. Sometimes people have assumed and even suggested that I do not have to work hard because my parents will spoil me and ensure that I get what I want. This cannot be further from the truth. My parents taught me strong work ethics from a young age. These are my dream and I have to work hard to ensure that I am successful in the field and in the classroom. It is true that my parents are there supporting me, encouraging me, and cheering me on and that to me is more valuable than everything else they could give me. I want to make them proud and I want to make myself proud.
All of these things have made me into the person I am today.
