Mateo Cervantes '23 Recruiting Profile

Ever since I kicked a ball for the first time when I was 5 in Mexico, soccer has become the center of my life. No matter how many times I moved due to my dad's job, soccer was the one common factor in every country.  It allowed me to make new friends in my new teams, fit into the new communities and gave me a passion that I could hold on to forever. Playing Soccer in Mexico, London, Switzerland, and LA has allowed me to learn how to adapt to different playing styles. As a person I have also gained one of my best attributes which is my ability to adjust and adapt to different communities and social customs. While adjusting to different lifestyles, and more recently adjusting to living in two different houses has aided me in being passionate, dedicated, humble, and disciplined to reach my set goals. My hard work and passion combined allow me to get closer to my goal. I have achieved a lot as a soccer player already, playing in the galaxy academy and playing competitively in Europe for the Chelsea Academy and FC Schaffhausen in Switzerland.

All the obstacles I have dealt with throughout my life have defined me as a person and a player uniquely. I have developed a work ethic and discipline that is unmatched. I have sacrificed a lot already and I am always willing to sacrifice more to achieve my goals. The balance I have created for myself is outstanding, while focusing on school and keeping an above 4.0 GPA, and taking multiple AP classes, I also make sure to improve myself athletically every day. I make sure to go to the gym, swim with my mom for cardio, and go to the soccer field every day as well, apart from club practices. I also work on my mental health, meditate every day, and keep a really strict healthy diet which in the long run has separated me from other athletes.

I am prepared for anyone challenges set ahead of me and look forward to bringing my unique qualities to a new team that I can greatly impact.
