Personal Statement

Hey coaches! My name is Cal and I play the nine. I consider my best attributes to be my touch, vision, speed, height, and technical skills.

I am spending my junior year of high school at the Talent Projekt, a residency academy outside of Munich, Germany. It’s been a great and challenging experience so far!  We regularly compete against very high-level youth academies including Bayern Munich, RB Salzburg (Austria), TSV 1860 Munich, FC Ingolstadt 04, TSV 1860 Rosenheim, and many others. Not only am I learning European tactics and movements, but also how to balance school and training, live with a roommate and navigate life in a new country!

My past club experience has been at the MLS Next levels at LA Surf and LA United Futbol Academy.

Outside of soccer I also love giving back to my community. I am a part of an organization called Lion's Heart. We do local volunteer work, including trash cleanup, food drives, baking for seniors, and other community work.

I would love to play at the highest level possible. That has always been what I use to push myself.  My development over many years has been driven by a want to be the most successful. Success to me, is achieving a goal but not stopping there, it is trying to reach as far as you possibly can. My goal is to play at a high level college and have success both in academics and soccer. School has also been very important to me. I have always worked to be a straight A student, and I hope to keep it that way for the rest of my high school career. My priorities  are very clear to me and I will continue to do my best in school and on the pitch.

  • 2019 LA Surf (ECNL)
  • This team was newly created in my club and I was excited to play in this new elite league. I was still playing in the midfield, this time as a ten. We travelled far as a team, by bus, to play games and they were extremely intense. We had a losing record but it was great experience for me to play against high-level players from different states.
  • 2018 LA Premier (Flight One, "A" team)
  • I played this year as a six. It was my first year as a midfielder, as I had played defense in all my years before. I got a feel for the midfield and how their positions work.

  • Skillset Overview Technical Abilities - 89 / 100 Dribbling - Quality with ball at both feet. Good in tight spaces, and makes good use of moves to beat defenders. Passing - Creates opportunities for teammates with accurate passes. Rarely over or under hits the ball. Tactical Abilities - 89 / 100 Vision - Field vision is very good. Constantly checking over shoulders on and off ball allows for quick decisions. Field Spacing - Highly active and involved in the attack. Gives good distance of support and passing angles for teammates. Physical Abilities - 89 / 100 Strength - Did a good job handling challenges and played well shoulder-to-shoulder. Agility - Showed good agility. Good body positioning and footwork helped you change directions quickly. Mental Abilities - 89 / 100 Competitiveness - Showed a strong desire to win and seems to enjoy the competition. Keep working hard! Coachable - Responds well to coaching. Asked good questions and seemed to enjoy the learning process. Coach's Comments Cal is externally hardworking on both sides of the ball. He is a great offensive threat when in possession and always picks the right moments when to impact the game from a passing stand point to a dribbling standpoint . Defensively he isn't afraid to do the dirt work. Cal has all the abilities to impact the game when it comes to connecting the team within 5-10 yard passes. Can you now impact the game with more of a selective range of passing, 25 yards and further.. You have proven the ability to put yourself in dangerous situations, now can we be clinical and capitalize on those supreme position. Natural leader by example, can you now vocalize that skill set so it can rub off on the players around you. You read the game at a high level, can you now help the players around you understand. (4.5 of 5 stars)
