Mercer Dergance '23 Recruiting Profile

As a two-footed defender with both size (6’-0”/160 lbs.) and pace, I’m a highly versatile player who is experienced at playing in 3-man and 4-man back lines. While I’ve spent most of my youth career playing CB in a traditional 4-man back line, over the past year I have played almost exclusively in 3-man back lines. For my club team, Real Colorado, I play LCB and LB, and for my undefeated (20-0-0) #1 ranked high school team, I play RCB and RB.

My strengths give me the profile of a prototypical modern defender:

1. Strong at 1v1 defending in space
2. Comfortable on the ball
3. Intelligent at building out of the back
4. Capable of breaking lines with incisive passing
5. Able to progress the ball through the midfield on the dribble

In addition to playing for Real Colorado (2021 State Cup Champions) and Northfield High School (2021 4A State Champions), I played for the Colorado ODP travel team (2019 & 2020) and was selected for the West Region ODP ID Camp in 2020.

As a student, I have always pushed myself to take the most challenging classes including every Honors, AP, and IB class available. While I’m strong at most subjects, I’m particularly passionate about math and engineering. In my spare time, I enjoy skiing, weightlifting, and exploring everything about automotive design, aerodynamics, and technology.
