Like so many athletes, I have been participating in sports since I was four years old. I played recreation league soccer and joined a martial arts studio after seeing a demonstration at school. Even as a young child, I liked to push myself physically and competitively. I set goals and achieved them. I achieved my first degree Black Belt in martial arts in the 6th grade. I progressed from recreation soccer to competitive soccer.
I am grateful that I chose to focus on soccer in high school because of the friends that I have made and the goals I have achieved. More importantly, I did not realize how beneficial it would be to my growth as an individual and how it would help me learn to work with a team and others which I will use throughout college and the rest of my life. As a Varsity player, I've come to understand what it really means to represent my school, not just myself. Our coaches work hard to build a fraternity of players to achieve our goals. This has taught me to work with others on and off the field, to support each other, and to celebrate each other’s achievements. I have developed a tighter bond with my teammates, worked on my leadership and communication skills, and have become more active at school and communicate better with my teachers. I feel more confident speaking in public and collaborating at work. Playing year-round club soccer and Varsity soccer requires me to manage my time and balance athletics and academics.
Now, I am ready to devote myself to a college education and continue to reach for higher athletic goals. I will use the same devotion and work ethic I learned in high school to continue to grow and learn. I will continue to broaden my leadership and communication skills, while diversifying my experiences.
I work hard to push myself to achieve new goals. I enjoy being challenged on the field by good competition and I support my teammates. I have had the fortune to learn from amazing coaches, all former professional players. I feel that I have grown as a player, and continue to set goals for improvement.
